A clash between the civilizations of ants and humans.
Jonathan Wells inherits his uncle’s house after his uncle’s death and moves in with his family. Curious to learn more about the uncle he barely knew, Jonathan receives a note from his grandmother warning him never to go down into Edmond Wells’ basement.
But one day, by chance, Jonathan steps into the basement.
After that, as if under a spell, he finds himself drawn back to it again and again.
At the same time, in the world of ants, male ant No. 327 is the first to awaken from hibernation and is assigned to go on patrol with his comrades. During that patrol, every ant except 327 dies without any clear cause.
Realizing that a great danger is approaching their colony, 327 tries to gather like-minded ants to warn their people. But he is hunted down by mysterious “rock-scented ants” and, in the process, begins to uncover a hidden truth his colony has long kept secret.
As two worlds move toward an inevitable collision, the fate of both civilizations hangs in the balance.
